Frequently Asked Questions
Implants
Will it hurt?
We understand that many patients are concerned about discomfort when starting their dental implant journey, and one of the most common questions we hear is, "Will it hurt?" While it's natural to have these concerns, we’re pleased to reassure you that most patients experience very little pain during the process.
In fact, during follow-up appointments, 70-80% of our patients report only needing one or two painkillers on the day of treatment and possibly for a few days afterward. The level of discomfort can vary depending on the complexity of the procedure. For more intricate cases, such as those involving bone or soft tissue grafting, there may be a slightly higher level of discomfort. However, even with our Teeth in 1 Day procedure, most patients find that over-the-counter pain relief is sufficient.
Our goal is to ensure your comfort throughout the entire treatment process, and we’re always here to address any concerns you may have.
Are implants available on NHS?
Dental implants are offered through the NHS only in exceptional cases where there is a clear medical need, such as after a serious accident or in certain situations following cancer treatment.
If you believe you may be eligible, an assessment by your local dental hospital will be required to determine if you meet the specific criteria for NHS coverage.
How long does treatment take?
The length of treatment varies depending on the type of care you require, as each case is unique. Factors such as extractions, bone grafts, or sinus lifts can influence the timeline. In some cases, it may only take a few weeks between the initial consultation and implant placement. However, the complete treatment, including aftercare, can take several weeks or even months.
We will discuss your specific treatment timeline during your implant assessment.
How long do implants last?
Dental implants can last for many years, with some cases reporting implant success upwards of 40 years post placement, though it should be noted that (like with real teeth) their lifespan will depend entirely on the level of care and cleaning.
Are there any reasons I can’t have implants?
Most patients are suitable candidates for dental implants, though there are instances where we must consider certain factors. Pre-existing medical conditions or lifestyle habits, such as smoking, may affect your suitability and the success of the treatment. Some patients may require additional procedures, like bone grafts, before implant placement. This will all be reviewed during your implant assessment.
Do implants fail?
While implant failure is rare, it can happen. A key factor in ensuring success is proper care. Implants must be kept clean to minimise the risk of failure, and we will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions. Factors like smoking or a history of gum disease can also reduce the chances of implant integration, but we’ll offer guidance on how to manage these risks.

Dentures
What types of dentures do you make?
At Chapman Dental Solutions, we offer a full range of dentures, tailored to suit your individual needs. We provide several standards to choose from, including ‘Private,’ ‘Cosmetic,’ and ‘Elite’ options. Your preferences and requirements will be thoroughly discussed during your consultation to ensure the best possible fit and outcome.
How long does it take to adapt to new dentures?
The adjustment period for new dentures varies from person to person. Factors such as the type of denture and individual perseverance play a role in how quickly one adapts. Some patients may have no difficulty adjusting quickly, while others may need a bit more time to get used to the fit and feel of their new dentures. This adjustment phase, known as the "bedding-in period," is normal. We provide 12 weeks of aftercare post-fitting to ensure that you're adapting comfortably.
Can I have permanent dentures?
We are often asked about "permanent dentures." The only way to have truly fixed dentures is with dental implants and fixed bridges. Alternatively, implant-retained removable dentures are also an option. We offer both procedures, so feel free to ask us for more information during your visit.
How do I care for my dentures?
Proper care of your dentures is essential to prevent the buildup of food particles, bacteria, and stains, which can affect appearance, cause bad breath, and lead to gum irritation or infections.
Use a soft toothbrush or denture brush with soap and warm running water (avoid hot water) to clean your dentures.
Avoid toothpaste, as it can scratch and damage the surface of the dentures, making them more susceptible to debris and tartar buildup.
Rinse or brush your dentures after every meal to remove food particles.
Nitradine tablets can be used to soak your dentures, helping to remove stains and deposits.
Soak your dentures once or twice a week for about an hour.
Avoid leaving dentures in the solution overnight, and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Full care instructions will be provided after your denture fitting, along with complimentary cleaning tablets.
How will I know if I need a reline?
Over time, you may notice your dentures feeling loose or causing some friction due to movement. This is a common occurrence as your oral anatomy naturally changes. A simple diagnostic check by our technicians can determine if a reline is needed. If so, we offer a quick turnaround reline service, so you’ll only be without your dentures for a few hours.
